Differences in stem radial variation between Pinus pinaster Ait. and Quercus pyrenaica Willd. may release inter-specific competition

چکیده

Species complementarity by morphological and physiological trait differences could cause distinct temporal spatial use of resources. Accordingly, mixed stands may enhance production, biodiversity and/or provide a better adaptation to future climate conditions. We aim identify species in intra-annual stem radial variation patterns, recognize species-specific responses contrasting weather conditions at key growth phases. Stem was recorded from high resolution point dendrometers (2012–2014) installed on twelve dominant maritime pine Pyrenean oak trees two central Spain. were analyzed synchrony statistics, pattern modelling, evaluating the dependence main phases Both showed important increment despite general synchrony. Radial onset earlier for during spring rainy autumns. Species-specific indicate that increased with autumn temperature pine, but decreased trees. However, summer vapor pressure deficit reduce pine. Therefore, would adapt more efficiently warmer temperatures associated change, although water stress this competitive bonus.

Sawing simulation of Pinus pinaster Ait

The paper deals with the sawing simulation of Maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.) and is a report from a project aiming to increase the knowledge in how different raw material characteristics and sawing factors are affecting on the sawing yield of Maritime pine. The conversion was executed by an integrated optimising software system, WooDCIM® developed at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finlan...

Taxonomic and Functional Diversity of a Quercus pyrenaica Willd. Rhizospheric Microbiome in the Mediterranean Mountains

Altitude significantly affects vegetation growth and distribution, including the developmental stages of a forest. We used shotgun Illumina sequencing to analyze microbial community composition and functional potential in melojo-oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) rhizospheric soil for three different development stages along an altitudinal gradient: (a) a low altitude, non-optimal site for forest m...

Additivity in tree biomass components of Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.)

In tree biomass estimations, it is important to consider the property of additivity, i.e., the total tree biomass should equal the sum of the components. This work presents functions that allow estimation of the stem and crown dry weight components of Pyrenean oak (Quercus pyrenaica Willd.) trees. A procedure that considers additivity of tree biomass components is presented, and applied to a pa...

Genetic control of pulp and timber properties in maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.)

Wood is one of our most important natural resources and has been exploited for many hundreds of years as fuel, building material and a source of paper. Its composition is variable among and within species. The ability to monitor the intra-specific variability is a prerequisite to improve wood and end-products properties. This paper describes a study of the genetic control of a large set of wood...
